Don’t treat your lips with the same disdain we’ve shown wildlife in the Gulf. Coating your lips with a petroleum-based lip balm is the same as coating any other body parts with petroleum. It provides little benefit to your lips, is accompanied by a host of other synthetic ingredients that are potentially toxic, and is made from a non-renewable resource.
Vaseline-type products do coat the lips, preventing moisture from evaporating. But they don’t add any moisture. Many people feel they actually dry out their lips, adding to the problem. Lip balm sales are dominated by petroleum-based products. Indeed, Chap Stick is so popular, when people refer to any lip balm, that’s what they call it.
When petroleum-based lip balms fail to perform, consumers are encouraged to buy “medicated formulas” like Carmex and Blistex. These are made from the same chemical mix as regular lip balms, but contain camphor or a similar ingredient.
Many people suffer from dry and cracked lips and are desperate for help. There are hundreds of natural and organic lip balms to choose from that actually moisturize and contain healing botanicals.
One of our favorite lines of lip balm is made by Crazy Rumors. Edie and Brian Himmell developed the concept for a lip balm company during numerous late night meetings in coffee shops in New York City. Their first lip balms, which are still quite popular, feature gourmet coffee and tea flavors.
Crazy Rumors lip balms are completely natural, vegan (no beeswax), contain a bit of Stevia, are 70% organic, and have the most amazing flavors you ever tasted. They totally nailed the flavors, all derived from natural sources. Their flavor collections include A la Mode, Bubble Gum, Fresh Squeezed, Perk, Brew, and Soda Pop, their newest. Best of all, their organic formulas do a great job of moisturizing, will never dry out your lips, and contain not a drop of petroleum or any of its by-products.
